This 12′ Scamp sailboat is our current floor demo, built for the 2024 Seattle Boat Show and it’s only been in the water once or twice for sea trials. As a “microcruiser” design from New Zealand marine architect John Welsford, the Scamp is a seaworthy 12′ sailboat that can handle a good dose of adventure. It has a quick-to-rig balanced lug sail rig, water ballast tank, a self-bailing floor, and a reputation for being easy to self-rescue if capsized. While it’s beamier than other boats in a similar length, it can be rowed when needed, and is easy to manage singlehanded. The cockpit is surprisingly roomy; many folks who see this 12′ boat for the first time are amazed to see that has about the same amount of space you’d have in the cockpit of a 20+ foot boat!
This particular Scamp has our standard white exterior/beige interior color scheme, with low-maintenance vinyl trim. The boat has been upgraded with a “tanbark” color sail (a rusty brick red color), floor hatch, swiveling mainsheet cleat, stainless steel keel strip and stainless steel deadeyes that add some pretty practicality. It’s also outfitted with our Convertible Camping Cover, which has zip-off panels offering a bimini for daytime shade and a fully-enclosed cover for nighttime camping. This package also includes 2-piece takedown oars that clip in along the cockpit seats, and a galvanized trailer.
