During the early 1900s, hundreds of efficient, seaworthy small boats were used for salmon fishing in the tide rips and chop off Point Defiance, Washington. Our version of this classic small craft carries that heritage forward with a wider beam and broader transom than the original, providing increased weight-carrying capacity and stability.
Rowboat — A nimble, lightweight rowing boat that can be rowed solo or tandem with ease. Light enough for a roof rack, eliminating the cost and storage of a trailer.
Sailboat with Sloop Rig — Adds a sloop rig for what is probably our easiest and most forgiving boat to sail — an ideal first sailboat for new sailors and families alike.
If you’ve never owned a boat before, it would be hard to go wrong with a Point Defiance. The hull is forgiving and confidence-inspiring. Under oar, she rows with little effort, she doesn’t track quite as aggressively as the Whitehall, but her full keel holds a course nicely. Under sail, the sloop rig is gentle and predictable, making it a natural platform for learning. Both versions readily accept a small outboard motor for an excellent fishing setup.
