12′ Scamp

“I have to say it’s the biggest little boat I’ve ever sailed.” - 48 North Magazine

A Micro Cruiser Built for Adventure

The Scamp is a seaworthy 12-foot sailboat with an outsized appetite for adventure. Just under 12 feet in length, she boasts a rare combination of features: the ability to explore waters too shallow for a larger boat while retaining most of a bigger boat’s comforts and capabilities.

An offset centerboard opens up the cockpit and creates an 8’3″ sleeping area. 172 pounds of water ballast provide exceptional stability. The cockpit is self-bailing, and a pair of grounding skegs on her flat bottom keep the Scamp perfectly upright when landing on a beach or when the tide goes out. She sails on a balanced lug rig, easy to set up, forgiving to sail, and well matched to a boat designed to go exploring.

From Plans to Fiberglass

The Scamp was originally designed as a plywood boat by John Welsford and remains a popular project among homebuilders. But for those who want the durability and low maintenance of fiberglass, we built something better. Gig Harbor Boat Works worked tirelessly to develop a fiberglass version, and Scamp #1 hit the water for her first sea trial in July 2013. Since then, we’ve continued to refine and improve the design, our Scamp today reflects years of hands-on experience and owner feedback that go well beyond the original plans.

Ready to Sail, Right Out of the Shop

Every Scamp we build leaves our shop complete and sail-ready. Our base boat is built with top-quality parts and materials and is sail-ready from day one. But the beauty of the Scamp is how much further she can go with the right options, whether you’re outfitting her for overnight anchoring, coastal cruising, or extended adventures.
