9.5' Captains Gig

An ideal size for a yacht tender, the Captains’ Gig is small enough to sidemount on a yacht transom, and it tracks exceptionally well for towing. One of the most stable sailboats available in a small size.

Timeless Lines. Modern Build.

The Captain’s Gig is where classic beauty meets modern performance. Her lapstrake hull offers the look of traditional wood construction, built entirely with modern, low-maintenance materials. She looks equally at home on the deck of an elegant yacht or pulled up in front of a cabin at the beach.

In 1993, we refined the original design by flaring the transom into a champagne glass shape and increasing the beam, dramatically improving both capacity and stability. The result is one of the most stable monohull sailing dinghies available.

On the Water

The Captain’s Gig sails remarkably well, especially to windward. Her true wineglass transom and long keel deliver excellent tracking and leave a virtually flat wake. Under oar, she rows with the poise you’d expect from a boat with these lines.

Three Configurations

Rowboat — A beautifully finished rowing dinghy with classic lapstrake styling. An elegant yacht tender or shore boat that turns heads wherever she goes.

Sailboat with Mainsail — Adds a mainsail rig that takes full advantage of the Captain’s Gig’s exceptional windward performance and stability.

High Performance Sailboat — Upgrades the rig with a bowsprit and jib for sailors who want to get the most out of this surprisingly capable little hull.

A Tender with Presence

Some tenders are purely functional. The Captain’s Gig is that, and something more. With her champagne glass transom and lapstrake planking, she makes an impression whether she’s under sail, tied alongside, or resting on deck.

Speed Test: Small Rowboats with 2hp Motor

Recently, a customer wanted to know how fast our smallest boats go with a 2 hp motor. It was a nice sunny day so we decided to take a couple dinghies out for speed testing. We don’t usually think of our boats as motor boats but they work well with a small outboard in maneuverability and speed.
